Review of Fish Story (2013) by John M — 02 Mar 2011
Will rock you. It's the year 2012, and a comet of Armageddon proportions is headed towards Earth. Japan is deserted, with everybody going to Mount Fuji seeking higher ground from the cataclysmic tidal waves that will follow, but a man in a record shop tells with confidence to the two people in his store that an obscure punk song from a forgotten band from the 70's will save the world, and the movie backtracks in time to show just how this could be possible.
This came highly HIGHLY recommended to me from a trusted critic that I follow, and he is the only reason why I even heard of it, and I'm SO glad I did. I was sold five minutes in, but it just keeps getting better and better.
It's an intricate puzzle that is always fascinating and never confusing. The ride getting there is great, but the ending spectacularly ties everything together, and not in a put-you-through-the-ringer type of way.
There is wisdom to be found in this movie, and you won't leave it empty-handed, you'll take something with you from it. And the song that the movie is named after, Fish Story, it ROCKS; I can't stop listening to it, as it is elating.
I cannot recommend this movie enough; it is well worth going out of your way to watch it.
