Review of First Sunday (2008) by Bill H — 20 Jun 2008
A preachy church movie with an annoying Tracy Morgan, a rather ho-hum Ice Cube, yet Katt Williams is the scene-stealer. Top-billed he is, the man is tossed to the side and spews one-liners (some pretty funny, actually).
Although I kinda wished the flick stuck with the comedy genre instead of deviating towards embracing a positive message, like some Tyler Perry knockoff (yeah, I sat through one of those flicks, unfortunately.
.. dunno which one, though). I've got nothing against inspiring-message type films, it's just that they're not new, they're forced, and cliche, not to mention the stereotypes this film falls into.
Plot holes don't help much either... I just gotta wonder, what's happened to Ice Cube's movie career? He hasn't been in anything remotely decent since Barbershop... :(.
