Review of First Snow (2006) by Joe M — 01 Jan 2009
Guy Pearce is terrific, but in order for this movie to work, it really had to do a better job describing his character's past, which is the big subterranean force in this story.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way, so that when elements of his past appeared on the scene, it felt a little too weak. You can't just show a few snapshots of boyhood friends and expect the audience to feel what that friendship might have meant.
Still, Pearce's performance can't be discounted, and it is a strange, quiet little story that really appeals to me.
