Instead of illuminating a grand chapter of human history this feature film plays off the liberal haphazardness of the post-modern age. Instead of leaving a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment "First Man" drags down the soul to a dark abyss, as in the likes of the fall of the USSR (to say, not victory but utter defeat).
