A Hollywood reenactment of a great story. Unfortunately, the storytelling here is pathetic and boring. Even ignoring the fact that Gere seems to be an American amongst Englishmen (and a Scottish king), the acting leaves something to be desired.
The villain is as two-dimensional as they come. I'd rather watch Prince of Thieves any day if I wanted an old English tale with an American inexplicably in the lead role. At least that movie is fun, and has decent acting.
