Review of First Blood (1982) by Lord N — 28 Jul 2010
When I think of Rambo, I think of this guy who mows people down with a machine gun and other assorted weapons almost every second of the movie. Doesn't everyone? well, this movie is not like that at all. My dad compared this one and the second one to Alien and Aliens (although apparently, the second one isn't as good as the first one unlike Alien and Aliens). The first Rambo is like Alien in that it is less violence and more suspense whereas the second Rambo as with Aliens is much more of an action film. Now, as for the film itself, I really liked it. It was very well done. It is certainly one of Stallone's best films along with Rocky. He does a great job in this one. maybe becasue he doesn't do too much talking. I dunno. I did really like the end monologue of his though.I really like this movie. it is a well crafted film that has some really decent action bits. I would suggest it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
TRIVIA TIME: 1. The name "Rambo" came from a brand of apples of the same name. Also, In Japanese, "Rambo" means "violence".
2. Many people were considered for the part of Rambo including: Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, Michael Douglas, Kris Kristofferson, James Garner, Jeff Bridges, and Robert De Niro.
3. Samuel Trautman was named after Uncle Sam, according to author David Morrell. Uncle Sam created the soldier John Rambo.
