Review of First Blood (1982) by Timothy N — 27 Nov 2011
"Let's do some huntin'!".
Synopsis: When former Green Beret John Rambo is harassed by local law enforcement and arrested for vagrancy, the Vietnam vet snaps, and runs for the hills. Hounded by a relentless sheriff, Rambo employs heavy-handed guerilla tactics to shake the cops off his tail.
First Blood is an action flick that stays true to it's promise, opting to showcase a number of blood pumping spectacles over some half-baked script. There's not much actual story here, but what is here's compelling and the free time any story would have taken up is put to great use with a number of adrenaline spiked chases.
Rambo is remarkably successful at keeping it's audience guessing. Never once was I comfortable enough to try to predict what was going to happen next, and many events evolve in completely unexpected manners, primarily it's explosive yet moving ending.
If your in the mood for action, Rambo: First Blood is an exemplary specimen of the genre.
