Review of First Blood (1982) by Tyler R — 22 Sep 2012
The first film in a series of four (and soon to be fifth), "First Blood: Part One" spawned the legend that is John Rambo. The film follows the war torn veteran John Rambo as he tries to reconnect with an old war buddy, only to find out that he passed away.
Friendless and helpless, Rambo makes his way to the nearest town, only to be denied food and rest by the sheriff. From then on, the sheriff's department and the national guard all try to take Rambo down, a man who seemingly cannot die.
The film has some very strong performences, mainly from Sylvester Stallone, who has already proved his acting abilities in "Rocky". The film balances a compelling story with heart pounding action that is scattered throughout.
"First Blood: Part One" moves along at a steady pace, leading to a conclusion that offers a social commentary to the returning veterans from Vietnam. It is a great film that leads to three (and hopefully four) explosive sequels.
