Review of Firestorm (2013) by Movie K — 16 Dec 2013

Definitely one of the best ever HK action movie. Even more so in the recent years. Great action, realistic firearms and improvment in special effects. Lam Ka Tung just release from prison. His girlfriend Yao Chen meet him.

Philip Keung is also out of prison. Andy Lau is suppose to pick him up but he is busy with his god-daughter (daughter of Philip) who is autistic. Lam is working in a robbery led by Hu Jun. Andy and his team (trusty Kenny Wong) is in-charge of the safety of money truck.

A crane crash into the truck and lift it up. The cops chase to the scene and encounter heavy fire. Andy drive in to stop a car. The baddies got a hostage. A car ram into Andy and he is stuck and injured.

The baddie kill the hostage in Andy sight and escape. Lam is the driver and is detain. Turns out they are childhood friends who use to spar in judo. Lam insist it is accident. Andy let him go to fish out the mastermind.

The police is tracking how they left via street camera and also want to capture the robbers faces. Hu Jun daringly go and hand over a police pass he pick up. But they can't do anything but only suspect him without evidence.

Michael Wong is Andy superior and want him to relax once in a while. They got some lead and quickly lay ambush. Lam place camera outside the unit where they meet. The police cut the image for 5 seconds and Andy lead a few to the unit.

Hu Jun and gang sense amiss and start firing. Their fire power and ruthlessness makes the cops helpless. Andy chase after Lam and fight, and drop from top to ground. Andy want Philip to find a undercover into the gang and he want to take the job.

Yao intro a kitchen job to Lam and she use her body to get it. But Lam still continue to lie to her and do bad deeds at the same time. They planning another robbery and Philip is the driver. Andy pass him a handphone with tracker.

Then they get information to cancel the plan because of a mole and disperse. The cops can't do much in the busy streets. Lam drive another getaway car and Yao saw him. She stop him from leaving and he reverse and bang his way out.

All the baddies get into his car and spread again. Philip is nearly killed in the van and he manage to escape. Andy follow the wrong trail and Lam eventually throw the phone to the sea. The cops track Philip with camera and he is heading home to save his daughter.

Andy and Kenny quickly head towards. Philip want his daughter to remain quiet and hide her in a suitcase. When they reach its too late. Philip is dead and the daughter is thrown down and dying. Andy stop chasing the baddie and send her to hospital.

But she died along the way. They receive info Hu Jun is heading towards airport and they detour to stop him. Andy get down and smash his window but is flung. Hu Jun want to knock him down but Kenny ram his car to save Andy.

Hu Jun is defiant and says Andy don't have evidence. But he still pin the death and crimes to him. Then he receive a CD showing him smearing blood on Hu Jun and his coat fibre apply to the dead girl fingernails.

He receive the call from Oscar Leung. He want to blackmail Andy with the evidence. Then he suffer asthma attack and Andy make sure he dies, making it look like the medication is used up and burn all copies.

Yao tell Lam she is pregnant and he is not the father. He decide to marry her and insist he has changed. That day he is not robbing but working as undercover all this while. Lam find Andy to reveal he is helping the gang but the mastermind is Ray Lui.

He is more ruthless and is the one who kill Philip and the girl. Hu Jun is escaping because Ray find out he want to get bigger share. He want to be a real undercover for Andy and want him to tell Yao.

When the SWAT leader ask if there is any undercover during the briefing, Andy says no. This last robbery is led by Ray and they ambush a money truck. But the SWAT team is inside and kill one of the thugs.

They escape and the cops chase after. Andy ram his car to theirs and they crash. The thugs escape and now cornered in Central. The explosive action begins here. Both sides exchange heavy fire among the cars.

Many cops died. Kenny is shot badly and tell Andy not to leave anyone alive. Lam overhear them and text Andy if the deal is still on. He ask him to get out of the war zone and he will see a car with hazard light, that's his escape car.

Ray, Lam and one last member hide in a bus. Ray throw the bombs to the gas pipes. The thug is freaking out and want to surrender. Andy call Lam and his phone rang. Ray want to kill him because he know he is the mole.

The thug kill Ray and surrender. Lam run his way out to the car. Andy shoot the surrender thug dead and aiming to kill Lam but eventually stop. But he is knock down by a lorry anyway. Andy type a letter to Yao and say Lam is working as undercover all along but want her to quiet as the ops is still ongoing.
