Review of Fire in Babylon (2011) by Deeps D — 01 Oct 2011
As good if not the best sporting documentary I've seen and that includes Senna, everything in ESPNs rightly acclaimed 30 for 30 - Fire in Babylon is a relentless, unapologetic, first person narrated (as a WI viewpoint, resisting the typical temptation to trot out ex opposition players to say how good they were) statement of humiliation and ultimate triumph of the single greatest sporting team I have ever seen.
Political, controversial, brilliant cricketers are shown as the embodiment not just of hope but of pride. Great footage and stills and magic static photos really capture a tumultuous age, the greats get their place in the spotlight before the narrative moves onto Viv, the embodiment of the team and the greatest batsman of all time.
Essential.
