Review of Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee (2007) by Tim G — 24 Nov 2007
Very funny movie. It's not a martial arts film, it's a mock documentary on casting the new Bruce Lee to finish "Game of Death." The possible Bruce Lees, including the C-star Breeze Lu, are hilarious. There is a white, Irish-looking guy who is half-Chinese and gives beatnik presentations of poems about the oppression of Asian-Americans. There's an Indian guy who graduates med school and leaves medicine to pursue his long-life dream of being a ninja and an actor. There's a former TV star who, other than one golden part, can only get the role of Chinese food delivery boy. The casting crew is fascinating.
The movie's not only funny, but it looks at the exploitation of minority actors in the 70s (the time that it was set in). Well worth seeing...I might get the DVD for this someday.
I saw this movie on Comcast On Demand because they show some independent films while in theaters. However, it was shown at Sundance and you can probably find it on the big screen somewhere right now.
