Review of Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee (2007) by Erno K — 05 Oct 2008
Well, this is a weird and completely unnecessary movie if I ever saw one. Who even thinks it's a good idea to make a faux documentary about the casting process of the fake Bruce Lee in the Game of Death movie that was completed after the real deal died? Oh, I guess the answer would be Justin Lin, the mastermind behind The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The million dollar question is, who would watch such crap? Err... Never mind that part.
I confess that there are a few smile-inducing moments, but as a whole, there just isn't too much there. The "we're in the seventies" jokes get old pretty fast. The movie is short, though, so it wasn't total agony. Still, I wish the film would have been much worse, instead of this utter mediocrity, because then I would have been able to laugh at how bad it was. Now the movie simply exists, without purpose, without any qualities, without a care in the world, ignorant. Kind of like Sarah Palin.
