Review of Finding Neverland (2004) by Andreia C — 02 Aug 2011
Beautiful movie, I was amazed by this one.
Johnny Depp did an amazing job, as usual, but this was definitely one of his best performances.
Kate Winslet is really one of the best actresses of this generation, from the moment she appears on screen she captures the audience and doesn't let it go, she steals the scene from Johnny Depp everytime.
The soundtrack is also beautiful and gives tons of emotion to the movie, a well deserved Oscar for Original Music Score.
Sad that it didn't won the Oscar for Best Picture, it was much better than Million Dollar Baby.
The costume design was also impressive, but I wasn't so upset with the winner for this category because the Oscar went to The Aviator, which was also really great.
Overall this is an excellent movie, with 7 Oscar nominations so just by that you know it's going to be something else.
Best Quotes:
Peter Llewelyn Davies: This is absurd. It's just a dog.
J.M. Barrie: Just a dog? *Just*?
[to Porthos].
J.M. Barrie: Porthos, don't listen!
[to Peter].
J.M. Barrie: Porthos dreams of being a bear, and you want to shatter those dreams by saying he's *just* a dog? What a horrible candle-snuffing word. That's like saying, "He can't climb that mountain, he's just a man", or "That's not a diamond, it's just a rock." Just.
J.M. Barrie: Young boys should never be sent to bed... they always wake up a day older.
Peter Llewelyn Davies: It's just, I thought she'd always be here.
J.M. Barrie: So did I. But in fact, she is, because she's on every page of your imagination. You'll always have her there. Always.
Michael Llewelyn Davies: [about J.M. Barrie] Can we have him for supper?
Sylvia Llewelyn Davies: Have him to stay for supper, Michael. We're not cannibals.
Sylvia Llewelyn Davies: What's it like, Neverland?
J.M. Barrie: One day I'll take you there.
J.M. Barrie: Write about your family, Write about the talking Whale.
Peter Llewelyn Davies: What Whale?
J.M. Barrie: The one that is trapped in your imagination, desperate to get out.
Peter Pan: To die will be an awfully big adventure.
J.M. Barrie: You find a glimmer of happiness in this world, there's always someone who wants to destroy it.
