Review of Finding Forrester (2000) by Kelly K — 30 Jan 2009
A great film, Gus Van Sant carefully crafts this story about an inner city kid gaining prestige in basketball and a spiffy private school. It feels like the Hollywood version of Hoop Dreams in many ways.
It takes it's time to get where it's going and the payoff is great. To be honest, I was almost bored for the first 20-30 minutes, but the rest of the film is so moving and funny and awesome that it's worth it.
And by the time the plot really starts happening you care so much more about these characters because you feel like you've gotten to know them really well.
