Review of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005) by David B — 15 Mar 2013
FF7 Advent Children is not as good as the game that it comes from, but it is an excellent experiment in computer graphics and action sequences. The fight scenes, in particular, are a great journey into unique camera scenes and an incredible musical score.
After the initial wonder of the film, and after watching it many times, as I have, you note that the plot is overtly abstract, vague, and complex, even for fans, as it introduces new characters and concepts with little explanation for them.
The lovely final fantasy characters lack a major role and are reduced to supporting roles, such as Red XIII, who only gets a single line. The final scene with Cloud against Sephiroth is worthwhile, but for a more complete version, get the Blu-Ray, it is more colorful, more invested, and better at explanation.
