If you liked/loved FFVII, you'll love this. If you have no idea what the storyline was for FFVII and/or don't like animation/anime, you're going to hate this movie. I'm not an anime fan myself, but I loved the battle-scene choreography.
Keep in mind that they did a horrible job translating from Japanese. There's definitely something lost in translation, but they did the best they could.
