Review of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005) by Rebekah I — 09 Jun 2012
I haven't watched this in years, I remember that this film got me interested in the Final Fantasy franchise with it's flawless imagery and look, however, recently I watched the rerelease, Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children Complete, and I would highly recommend to anyone that they should watch the rerelease of this film.
The original release had cringeworthy English Dub voice acting and script with extreamly cheesy one liners, in addition the story jumped too much and nothing really made sense to both viewers farmiliar and new to the franchise, with the unexplained introduction of new characters, events, and concepts that made the original difficult to follow, leaving people with their own interpretation to the back story to new characters, leading to terrible fanfic and rumors (sigh, the anime community -_-).
However, watching Advent Children Complete was much more pleasent. The unsettling English voice acting and script is still there, but the story in Complete is much more indepth and to the point. Much needed scenes that where missing in the original, for example back stories and more explanation of events and concepts, have been added and have made the story more fluent. The film didn't jump as much and questions were answered. Also I was pleasently suprised with new thought out fight and chase sequences, making the overall film more exciting and impressive from an animation perspective,.
The addition of these extras has allowed Advent Children to be a stand alone film that everyone can enjoy,..not just FFVII Fanboys and Fangirls.
As with all CG films, you can see that it has dated, however the quality of the animation would still compete with more modern technology. and the overall look is still beautiful.
Advent Children: 2.5.
Advent Children Complete: 3.5.
