Review of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (2001) by Paul K — 06 Jul 2010
Its not anime, but it is Japanese. It's Americanized and all computer generated. Interesting plot, but only looks and sounds as good as a computer game. The core of a destroyed planet hurtles through space, impacting North America and releasing hordes of ghostly spirits of every size and species, killed when the original planet was went under.
An attractive, smart female scientist, who's spiritually open to boot (gee, how surprising is that?) gets help from a he-man hunk of a soldier as they try to decipher the meaning of the strange dreams she receives as a result of being invaded, but not killed, by one of these spirit-sucking phantoms.
They and her doctor race to collect the spirits that will save her and the planet from the egotistical heroics of a stereotypically idiotic male general and his big phallic space gun.
