Review of Final Destination 5 (2011) by Peter B — 07 Jun 2012
The rare case of a horror sequel that does everything right. This is even more of a rarity among film franchises that have lasted 5 films. It subverts the series by introducing new rules as well as clever red herrings.
The film also follows the tradition of comic slapstick Rube Goldberg style deaths and the ending was an unexpected delight. What this film is to the Final Destination series is what The New Nightmare was for the Nightmare on Elm St series, in other words a surpising, clever, and fun breath of fresh air for a series that's been beaten to death.
Worth watching if you liked the first two Final Destination films or enjoy creative big budget slashers.
