Review of Final Analysis (1992) by Drlowdon — 08 Oct 2017
As I suspect many others are doing I decided to re-watch Blade Runner in preparation for the sequel as it'd probably been at least ten years since I'd originally watched it.
In all honesty my opinion of the movie has changed very little in that time. It gets a lot right in terms of characters and storytelling and the futuristic depiction of LA, which must have looked spectacular back in the mid 80's, still stands up today.
The issue I continue to have with Blade Runner however is it's pacing. Yes, its nice to see a film take the time to explore it's themes (largely, what does it mean to be human) but a number of scenes drag on for much longer than necessary and almost slow things down to a halt at times. As a result, while I respect Blade Runner for what it sets out to achieve and its influence on the sci-fi genre I can't say it's amongst my favourite movies.
