I expected a darkly crass comedy. I'm not sure exactly what I got instead. It's a mess of tone and intention, often over the top and stupid. But parts of it really, really work solely because of McAvoy's intensity.
(Strong support from Jamie Bell and Shirley Henderson doesn't hurt.) I wouldn't watch it again. but I'd consider it an interesting failure.
