Review of Filth (2013) by Kevin C — 30 Sep 2013
Probably the best performance ever from McAvoy. Seriously dark film that gripped me the whole way through. It's a roller coaster ride as you watch Bruce ( McAvoy ) breakdown. His character is a cocaine snorting, alcoholic police detective who will stop at nothing to get the up coming promotion to inspector, manipulating his colleagues and friends to get what he wants. And watching the break down as his drug abuse, physiological torment at his wife and daughter leaving him and his scheming take its toll on him in dramatic fashion.
The films humour is blacker than black and I found myself laughing out loud. Although the humour is offset by the emotional turmoil that Bruce is going through in his own head.
The film is very well directed and destined to be a cult classic. Not to sure how the yanks will take it but in my opinion McAvoy has an oscar winning performance.
