Review of Filth (2013) by Ant S — 23 Oct 2013
Dark, surreal black comedy. James McAvoy gives probably his best performance to date as a corrupt police detective in Scotland trying to make it to the top and fucking everybody over on the way. Unfortunately he fails to realise he's fucking himself over to and is on a downward spiral.
Filth is what you might expect from an adaptation of a book written by the same guy that wrote Trainspotting; dark, depressing, fast moving, funny in the darkest possible way, offensive, surreal...not your everyday film and one you might have to be in the mood for but it's definitely an interesting and intoxicating ride into the life of an individual who seemed to have it all and seems to be letting it all go.
