Review of Filth (2013) by Rich L — 31 May 2014
Filth had me guessing. After being sorely disappointed by the over the top Wolf Of Wall Street, I was concerned that this film would go down the same path. However, despite being visually shocking in the first hour or so, the film evolves into a really excellent psychological thriller with a fantastic plot that will surprise you at the end.
But what really stood out was McAvoy's performance. I was worried that the traditional romancer wouldn't be able to step past his simpler roles but McAvoy proved me quite wrong. He absolutely transforms himself for this role, taking us on a convincing, mind boggling ride to insanity and making the viewer believe every word and action.
The man has some hidden talents and I am excited to see him continue to evolve past romance and X-Men movies.
