What begins as a darkly funny bit of anti-hero mischief (a la Fight Club, Trainspotting) turns into a darkly unfunny bit of self-loathing (a la Shame). The surrealism never works and is extremely distracting.
McAvoy is fantastic but the rest of the characters are cliches and the twist ending is a disappointment.
