Review of Fill the Void (2012) by Shirley Z — 23 Jun 2013
Fascinating, but dark, melodrama about a young woman who chooses duty over desire. I kept waiting for some light at the end of the tunnel, some hint of happiness awaiting Shira and Yochay but never saw even a glimmer. The last scene, in the wedding suite, where a shocked-looking Shira is backed up to a wall knowing she must now submit.
To her late sister's (and now her) husband was very disturbing.
