Review of Fighting (2009) by Toby J — 10 Apr 2010
A dreadful film that tries to be a gritty and street based 'Raging Bull' which fails monumentally. The acting is sub standard, the romance is tacked on terribly and the direction is appalingly wayward.
Some of the dialogue was improvised, or so I hear, but that is no excuse for the terrible script. We can look at Mike Leigh who uses improvisation so effectively, why could Montiel not do this? We will never know.
The film tries to be a hardcore violent event but what it becomes is an unintentionally laughable and slapdash slice of cinema.
