Review of Fight Club (1999) by Matthew F. J — 31 Jan 2014
What a film! Yesterday there was a retrospective at a local theater in Berkeley so my friend Nachi & I still sore from our regular die hard 2 hours heavy lifting at the BTC, decided to go watch this film. I had not seen this film in about ten years and it was amazing because I had the feeling I was watching something completely new & different which doesn't happen very often these days because films tend to be mostly remakes, sequels or superhero movies so let's say they are all product nicely packaged but all very alike.First thing that stroke me was how packed the theater was! I mean everyone can watch this film on Netflix or even rent the dvd but no everyone made the effort to show up and the $5 price might have helped because today watching a film cost about $12 which is kind of expensive when you think about it.
Back to the movie, this is quite a film, completely insane in the greatest way possible, dark, intense, filled with savvy lines, amazing characters & a very unique style of cinematography. This film takes you on a crazy ride & keeps intensifying until the last minute. It's the work of a very talented team of people from the writers to the director , the cast is brilliant... to put it simply, this film is just awesome and manages to be fresh, innovative and very entertaining some 15years after it was released. Amazing.
