Review of Fifty Dead Men Walking (2008) by Jenn T — 03 Feb 2009
Great film that provides a gripping and fairly detailed look at the life of an IRA informant. Very good performances especially from Kingsley and Sturgess. It focuses in on the relationship between the two main characters and family but also provides plenty of action and tension.
It would have got a higher rating but it does miss out a lot of the wider context and glosses over much of the operations that he was involved in. Several parts within it have also been fictionalised even while portraying itself as a true account.
Martin McGartland reportedly tried to block its release initially because he was unhappy with its distortion of the truth.
