Review of Field of Dreams (1989) by Tony T — 31 Dec 2011
A very well done sentimental Hollywood fantasy. Considered by many to be one of the best sports movies ever made. I would have to, technically, disagree with this statement. "Field of Dreams", to me, is not a sports movie.
It is more a Hollywood fantasy about redemption, forgiveness and the father/son relationship. The fact that all of this is wrapped up in a neat baseball package tend to make people think that this is a sports movie about baseball.
But the simple truth is that there are very few baseball scenes in this movie. As I said earlier, it is a very well crafted, sentimental Hollywood fantasy with a universal theme that many of us can understand and relate.
..Sentimental...But never sappy and boring. You don't need to be a baseball fan in order to appreciate this great movie. Kevin Costner is very good in the lead and he's surrounded by a fantastic cast.
....Rating: 8.5/10.... 8).
