Review of Field of Dreams (1989) by Brian P — 20 Dec 2010
Painfully reliant on sap, nostalgia, americana, and a whole lot of lame. Field of Dreams is one of those rare movies where its place in the history of cinema is wildly exagerated due to the way it made people feel at the time of release.
What if I love baseball and hate the Sox? It's a movie that is a pidgeon-hole of cheesey dialouge, incredibly unrealistic performances, and just about nothing at all that makes actual sense. I know it's supposed to require some faith, but it was hard to give any when I didn't care about a single event or character in the entire experience.
Some good psychological profiling occurs with the main character's father, but it's a golden nugget in a sea of poor decisions.
