Review of Fiddler on the Roof (1971) by Yebrail B — 21 Jan 2009
As, a general rule, musicals rarely make the transition from the stage to the screen successfully, but Norman Jewison pulls off this task magnificently in one of the greatest musical films of all time.
Instead of going with a Hollywood star for the lead role, Jewison made an inspired choice picking Topol to play Reb Tevye. He not only sings and dances, but he also pulls the viewer into his story. "Fiddler on the Roof" is truly a musical masterpeice and an enjoyable film for the whole family.
