Review of Fiddler on the Roof (1971) by Jenny D — 13 Mar 2009
This is a great film. Not flashy, showy or bubbly like other musicals. Topol is amazing as Tevye. Topol is Tevye and Tevye is Topol. It still boggles my mind today that he didn't win an Oscar back in 1972 for his role.
And the movie overall should have gotten at least 10 out of the 13 awards it was nominated for. It's really well written and the story of this Russian Jewish family in the times just before the Revolution is a great masterpiece.
