Review of Fences (2016) by Tuna M — 27 Jan 2017
This movie is based on a play by the same name which Denzel Washington has been a part of. It clearly shows as he puts in one of his best performances to date. Bringing Wilson's plays to wider audiences is a good thing.
Fences preserves the drama, if not quite translating it into film. Washington and Viola Davis are go-at-it, toe-to-toe heavyweight champions. They are incredible, and Fences is special.
