Review of Female Trouble (1976) by David A — 07 Nov 2010
As is usually the way, the early works are the best and this very early John Waters movie is one of (if not the) best he's ever done. Filthy, bad taste, black black comedy - godawful acting, terrible production values and scenary flopping around this movie runs off a great script and a fantastic performance by Divine.
This is the definition of a so-bad-its-good movie. There are some extremely bad taste scenes in this movie (Divine giving birth and chewing through her own umbilical cord is one) as well as some truly bizarre moments like Divine pushing her mother underneath the Christmas tree and running away from home in a tiny nightie and fluffy slippers.
There's not much middle ground here, you'll love it or hate it.
