Review of Fed Up (2014) by Thomas W — 12 Sep 2014
Were you aware that THIS generation of kids is the first one in modern times who have been predicted to have shorter lives than their parents?!? For some reason people don't want to think about important things that documentaries like this bring to the forefront because politicians and lobbyists are doing everything they can to protect their campaign contributors or high dollar employers.
Fed Up is a new documentary brought to us and narrated by executive producer Katie Couric as a feature-length follow up to a small news story she did years ago on childhood obesity. While I am not a fan of Couric (at all), her heart and mind is in the right place here as she calls out DC for not doing more to protect our future generations like we once believed we did when we eliminated "fat" out of our diets.
Thirty years later we are "fatter" as a society than we have ever been before because sugar is our body's true enemy who now has a giant corporate lobby behind it which means it'll NEVER go anywhere as long as the likes of Sarah Palin slurp on a Big Gulp rallying a base against a "Nanny State" that simply wants to inform the public of better choices.
Nobody in DC gets off in this doc save retiring Iowa Senator Tom Harkin who has fought against the cause of obesity for 30 some years of his career. Mrs. Obama wanted to help ... but she more less sold out to corporate lobby pressure.
Watch this and get Fed Up. We've all been sold out. Couric toots her own horn one time too many and a few of the young kids come across as slightly grating (sorry) know-it-alls; but Fed Up should be seen.
The times ... they should be a-changing but they never will when "hope" and "change" are laughed at by half of the nation.
