Review of Feast of Love (2007) by Billie L — 05 Apr 2008
Disclaimer: LOTS AND LOTS of nudity.
But ... I really really enjoyed this movie. I found the characters really engaging and it felt like when you read those kind of books that you just can't put down. I found it to be such a sweet and incredibly frustrating movie all at the same time. And I found the problems in the relationships to be complicated but understandable, which is very rare in cinema today. It seems that so many writers and directors just want to confuse everyone and everyone refuses to give solutions or even just the ability to understand what is actually happening, all in the name of being "artsy" and "forward-thinking". That always annoys me. Since when did making something completely incomprehensible become "genius" or "brilliant"? Anyways, this movie was really well-done. Morgan Freeman and Jane Alexander's characters really anchored the story and you couldn't help but love the story between Alexa Davalos and Toby Hemingway. And normally I can't stand Greg Kinnear but he did an amazing job with his character. Plus I found that Selma Blair, even with such a small role, did a remarkable job with her character. I really felt like I could see inside of her...I know that doesn't make sense, but she just seemed to give her role so much openness.
