Without a doubt, one of the most cringe-inducing films of all times, for its laughably bad attempt to convey the sense of events in the book. Problem is, the book is vastly superior for its interior experience of deranged thinking and behavior.

This doesn't translate well to the screen at all. The film ranks as a real low point in the career of Terry Gilliam. As for the actors, they aren't just acting badly, they're freaking out in a manner that suggests this may be an unintentional comic farce--funny for the way it tries to be funny and falls on its face-- and not the disturbing misadventures of a drug-addled writer run amok.
