Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Grant B — 05 Feb 2012
So bizarre it's hysterical! An incredibly off-the-wall view of Hunter S. Thompson's work and the drug culture of the late sixties. Johnny Depp gives one of his best performances as Thompson, making choices an actor would barely get away with in anything else.
Terry Gilliam's directorial style is perfectly matched with the material and subject matter; you feel just as disoriented as the characters. At times that's as unpleasant as it sounds, but the vast majority of the film is one mind-blowing, hilariously absurd trip of a film.
