Review of Fear and Desire (1953) by Steve W — 16 Aug 2010
Say what you will about Kubrick, he definitely was humble. He disliked his debut feature film when it failed at the box office and got mediocre reviews. Rumours say he bought up as many film prints as he could and tried to burn them.
A few survived. His first film is pretty interesting, with some good themes. His weaknesses of direction are apparent but that it okay. The tree hostage scene was the best. A decent debut.
