Review of Fay Grim (2007) by Anna H — 04 Aug 2007
I was somewhat afraid to watch this after avoiding his movies for the last few years for fear of disappointment by one of my favourite directors but was happily surprised to like this very much. even tho this is the sequel to henry fool, which I had also avoided.
an engaging well-paced spy thriller that otherwise follows the usual hartley formula of stylised delivery against a background of familiar visual imagery and locations. parker posey and elina lowensohn are so so watchable.
does not contain the poetic/philosophic moments that provoked such a surge of joy and sympathy in my heart like his first two films, but has many funny moments like others such as simple men. an extra half a star cos he's back to making great movies.
