Review of Faust: Love of the Damned (2000) by Jason G — 04 Mar 2008
Not nearly as preverse, explicit or depraved as the comicbook...
Having the lowest of budgets imaginable makes some of the special effects in this film laughable but you can at least appreciate what they were trying to accomplish.
Lots of graphic scenes of sex, violence, occult practise and gory, bloody, grisley death (in keeping with the books).
Mark Frost is an absolutely HORRIBLE actor (which doesn't help the film as he plays the main character and takes the most screen time)... but his ghastly performance is overshadowed by his excellent supporting cast:
Jefferey Combs is.. as usual, brilliant in his over-the-top, campy sort of way. A joy to watch!
Andrew Divoff is all menace and creepy, degenerate evil and Monica Van Campen is sexy as all hell (literally)... in her role as SUCCUBUS/DEMONESS...Claire.
Look...
Directors like BRIAN YUZNA and STUART GORDON are renown for their "low-budget" GORE-NOGRAPHY... If that's not your cup of blood... stay away!
Recommended only for fans of low-budget, "B" movie horror films. Others will be disappointed and likely to call FAUST the "worst movie they ever saw".
