Review of Father of the Bride Part II (1995) by Danielle S — 03 Jun 2008
"Going to the movies will be economical: one child and two seniors!".
Steve Martin and Diane Keaton play George and Nina Banks. Their daughter got married in the first installment, and in this edition, their daughter announces that she's pregnant. Soon enough, Nina finds that she's pregnant as well, which opens up the movie for many scenes of Martin looking stressed out. The fact that their house is about to go on sale creates the opportunity for the film's writers to tack on many thin, weak issues for both George and Nina, who now feel sad about leaving their memories behind. Much like the original, the film depends on his dry sarcasm and brilliant physicality to make the most of the circumstances this regular dad finds himself in. The film goes more than a little overboard towards the end, but Martin reigns in both the humor and the potential crises, making the craziness seem believable and heartfelt.
