Review of Fatal Attraction (1987) by Alvin Y — 28 Apr 2010
Scary, psycho bitch Glenn Close converges on Douglas' family man like an Exocet missile, bunnies and kids notwithstanding, in this morally ambivalent thriller. Isolating and exploiting men's fears has never been so entertaining and the pitfalls of a one-night stand don't come more brazenly illustrated than this.
Lyne makes Close more terrifying than a chainsaw-wielding serial killer but it is her own skillz that make the character an an original rather than a stereotypical bogey-woman. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Archer's character who comes across as likable but forgettable as the wifey.
Douglas does his 'harassed honky' to perfection, encapsulating white male middle class/aged helplessness while the supporting cast more than capably add colour to the hysterical main theme. I would recommend this to any married man thinking of embarking on an affair: it will shrivel your balls.
