Yeesh. Pretty darn good. But yeesh. Smartly done movie. Glen Close is simply frightening to look at in this. and then we have some actions to back that up. I was kind of hoping she was lying about being pregnant. There were some fantastic juxtapositions in this. Cutting from the happy bowling outing to Alex listening to Madame Butterfly turning the light on and off. The rollercoaster with the frantic mother. Good stuff. Of course the rabbit is a classic scene but you could probably guess that I didn't appreciate it. I wouldn't watch.

Thought it doesn't seem to be favorable among critics like Roger Ebert, I liked how the movie ended. I thought it was satisfying. Kept the heart pumping.

And I have to admit I liked the elevator. Some interesting and dynamic shots in there. (oh yeah right, alison.) okay it was hot. sink was hotter.

Interesting water theme too, while we're at it. not 100% sure on the meaning. So far I've worked out excess and obviously sex.

There's a whole lot of white in Alex's apartment. Irony? and all over the place actually. like the bathroom at the end, and their clothes in that scene. not sure if its just ironic or something else. Perhaps the red blood contrasts best on white to show the staining of the fidelity of their marriage and how out of control the situation has escalated. I think the water theme works into that too because good water is pure and at the end it becomes tainted by blood. Interesting stuff.

Its rather nice to see a movie like this that shows the consequences of an act that often is portrayed without negative effects. Not unlike Requiem for a Dream with addictions.

I like it when a movie gives me a lot to chew on. :).

Almost forgot. The dog is a nice touch. Especially that Daniel brings it to her place. Why? Cause dogs are a symbol for fidelity. Delicious irony.

Okay one last thing. the rabbit is also an interesting metaphor because rabbits, in America can be food as well as a pet. Hence how it is killed is Alex making a statement about how she feels Daniel sees her and treats her. As well as a sign of her jealousy that he treats her like a piece of meat but not the rabbit.
