Review of Fatal Attraction (1987) by Adam S — 17 Dec 2014
A fairly gripping erotic thriller, "Fatal Attraction" has some traits of a guilty pleasure in some aspects, but overall is a very well-made, well-acted story about 2 very unlikeable people in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
The story revolves around an affair that a happily married attorney has one weekend with editor Alex Frost. The attorney, Dan, tries to break free of the affair, but Alex refuses to cooperate, becoming increasingly erratic, volatile and hostile towards Dan, his wife and his young daughter.
The impeccable cast is led by 3 leads - Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer - all of whom put in almost Oscar-worthy displays into conflicted performances. The chemistry, particularly between Douglas and Close, is electrifying, and it really elevates the film.
Still, this movies biggest asset is it's twisting, turning plot line, that is hard to predict and builds to an almost inevitable shocking conclusion. It makes unlikeable characters completely unmissable on the screen, and combines complete psychological mayhem with juicy bedroom scenes far ahead of it's time.
A solid film.
8/10.
