Review of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! (1965) by Viktor N — 28 Jan 2013
One of the best and most unique of Russ Meyer's films, "Faster Pussycat.." continues to shock audiences and remain as vital as when it opened. The film's focus is a gender flip, with the women as the male leads preying upon some small and impotent men.
While the leads are shown as strippers for a brief second, they are better described as adrenaline junkies who just do not give a fuck. The film is incredibly cathartic in its deconstruction of gender stereotypes (which may or may not have been Meyer's intention).
His directorial style is fast and furious (a big influence on the MTV style of the 80s as well as post-modern masters like Tarantino) showing that he was way ahead of his time not only in his themes but also his style.
