Review of Faster (2010) by Rex B — 30 Apr 2011
For action buffs, this might be worth your time. Dwayne Johnson plays a man who gets out of prison intent on getting revenge on a group of criminals who had the inside scoop on a bank robbery that he and his brother participated in and ransacked their house to grab the cash.
Johnson gets a list of the people who were in on the job and seeks them out throughout the movie. A wild card is Oliver Jackson-Cohen hired to kill Johnson at the same time. Billy Bob Thornton plays a pathetic cop in the movie and is really starting to prove the point that he's just gone downhill since Sling Blade.
There is one scene late in the film that interjects a dash of faith that I found particularly good, but other than that this movie was a weird fit for Johnson. Though he is a tough guy in a lot of movies, this one challenged him to be a bit more "bad" and he didn't carry it as well as I think he could have.
Still, it's worth a rental and a weekend afternoon.
