Review of Faster (2010) by Mike C — 20 Aug 2011
Not what I was expecting...but in a good way. What I mistook for a Transporter clone turned out to be a pretty solid, hard edged revenge flick.
The look is very contemporary, but the style is very 70's: the bad ass who doesn't speak much rolls into town and starts blowing away everyone who wronged him. It's very Lee Marvin/Charles Bronson/Clint Eastwood - a character even has a The Good, The Bad and the Ugly ringtone.
It's not a movie without it's problems, but it's intriguing enough to keep you interested and the old school car stunts are pretty exciting. But there are a few too many characters: The hit man and his girlfriend felt like they came from a different movie entirely, with way too much backstory for such secondary characters. And what's with Tom Berenger in such a small role? I kept waiting for him to come back.
