Review of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) by Kendall I — 03 Aug 2011
These really are Fast Times!
PLOT:It's the starting of high school at Ridgemont High and everybody's got a dream. Stacy (Jennifer Jason Leigh), a 15yo wants to score high with the big guys; Rat (Brian Backer) is a socially awkward theater usher in the mall that wants to have a relationship and his friend Damone (Robert Romanus), a ticket scalper outside the theater wants to help; Brad (Judge Reinhold) is fired from his job and lost his girlfriend, so he needs to bring his life back; and Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) dreams big and grades low. It is a widespread plot that looks into an 80's teenager's life. It is a little scattered, but I can forgive that.
ACTING:Very good acting. It's not the best, but it definitely is good. The shiners were Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Robert Romanus.
SOUNDTRACK:It was decent. There were a lot of songs I didn't know, but then there were some I did like. Some fit the moment, some sucked. DECENT.
OTHER CONTENT:WHy didn't I like it more than Dazed & Confused? Well, I'll tell ya! It was the scattered plo basis (some might say forgivable, but it frustrated me) and it felt kinda rushed. I mean, here you are first day of school, 15 minutes later you're at Christmas. Uh-uh.
OVERALL,a great coming-of-age film with a widespread and scattered plot, very good acting, and decent soundtrack. But it's rushed..
